Riley Norton, 2023/24 headboy, an exceptional young athlete at Paul Roos Gimnasium, has made a name for himself in both cricket and rugby. However, it was the Springboks’ success that nudged him to choose rugby over cricket. Born into a sports-loving family in Stellenbosch, Riley has been actively involved in sports from a young age. His father, Chris Norton, a former Western Province rugby player, and his two older brothers have been significant influences on his sporting journey.
Despite his outstanding performance in cricket, including being named the CSA Boys’ U16 Player of the Tournament in 2022, Riley decided to focus on rugby. His dedication and hard work have earned him a place in the high-performance squad for the SA U19 TAP (Talent Acceleration Programme) camp, giving him a chance to be selected for the U19 World Cup 2024 and a Bangladesh tour. Riley continues to inspire his peers and younger athletes at Paul Roos Gimnasium with his passion and commitment to rugby.
