Paul Roos, kleinseun van die legendariese Oom Polla, is onlangs op 17 Maart in Pretoria oorlede. Hy was ’n prokureur van beroep en die seun van dr. Gideon Roos en, soos sy pa, jare lank nou betrokke by SAMRO (The Southern African Music Rights Organisation). Hy was afgetree en het op sy plaas naby Nylstroom geboer.
Na sy dood het die besturende direkteur van SAMRO, Abe Sibiya, die volgende oor hom te sê gehad:
SAMRO is mourning the passing of one of its founding fathers, Paul Roos, who passed away on March 17. He was the last surviving member of the influential family dynasty that pioneered the collective management of copyright in South Africa in the 1960s, headed by patriarch Dr. Gideon Roos Senior.
Aside from the pioneering Dr. Roos Senior, his two lawyer sons – Gideon Roos Junior and Paul Roos – also made an immense contribution to the growth and success of the organisation.
The family collectively laid the foundation for SAMRO to grow from its humble beginnings more than 50 years ago to a copyright asset management society administering the work of some 15 000 music creators, authors and publishers across the region today.
Both sons gave decades of dedicated and loyal service to SAMRO in key executive positions before stepping down in 1997 and were honoured for their contribution alongside their father at SAMRO’s inaugural Builders Awards five years ago.
