Roelof Temmingh (2014), the first ever Paul Roos student accepted at the Royal College of Music in London, received not only a BMusHons in July this year from this acclaimed institution but also the Tagore Medal for being one of the two most generally deserving senior students for outstanding contributions musically and other important ways to the life of the RCM.
Die Royal College of Music (RCM) in Londen het middel 2015 vir die eerste keer sedert sy stigting in 1882 ‘n oud-Paul Rooser as musiekstudent toegelaat. Hy was die uiters talentvolle Roelof Temmingh wat in 2014 aan PRG gematrikuleer het met ‘n gemiddelde persentasie van meer as 90%.
As mens in ag neem dat slegs 8 persent van alle aansoeke toelating tot die RCM kry, is dit al klaar ‘n uitsonderlike prestasie. Roelof is die seun van Zorada Temmingh, ‘n bekende in musiekkringe op Stellenbosch soos ook sy pa, Roelof Temmingh senior, wat reeds in 2012 oorlede is .
Roelof het in 2018 sy BMus graad behaal en in Julie vanjaar sy BMusHons. Die groot verrassing tydens die gradeplegtigheid was die aankondiging dat hy ook een van die twee Tagore-medaljes ontvang. Die twee toekennings word gegee aan “the two most generally deserving senior students for outstanding contributions musically and in other important ways to the life of the RCM”. Die Tagore-medalje is in status gelyk aan US se kanseliersmedalje.
