Die Paul Roos-gemeenskap het vanjaar ’n vroeë Kersgeskenk ontvang toe dit bekend gemaak is dat Jean Durand (2018 en Dux Student) met die Universiteit Stellenbosch Kanseliersmedalje vir sy harde werk en akademiese sukses bekroon is. Dit is ekstra spesiaal aangesien Jean, wat ‘n tweede generasie PRG Old Boy is, nou die 14de lid van die OSU is wat hierdie gesogte eerbewys ontvang en ons sal aansluit by Imperial College in Londen om ‘n Meestersgraad in datawetenskap te voltooi.
On the literary front, two Old Boys have released new non-fiction books. Pieter du Toit (1997) has published his book The ANC Billionaires – Big Capital’s Gambit and the Rise of the Few and Niel Joubert (1999) released his book Whitey: The Rise and Rule of the Shoprite King.
The OBU would also like to welcome the following members, who have taken out life-membership, namely; Anton van Niekerk (1971), Abe Bardin (1973), Skip Krige (1973), Jan Hanekom (1979), Llewellyn de Wet (1985), Monty Galloway (1986), Albert Galloway (1988), Morne Van Rooyen (1992), Dewald Kleynhans (1992), Christian von Derckheim-Montmartin (1997), Willem Roux (2005), Egbert Loubser (2006), Daniel Binedell (2015), Luhan Strydom, Jacques Theron and Daniel Durand (all 2021). We have also introduced a financial option for Grade-8 schoolboys and onwards to acquire life membership at a fixed rate. This was well received, and a number of Grade 12 have paid full life membership. We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2022 to our events next year.
Dit was met ‘n swaar hart dat die Oudskoliere-unie afskeid geneem het van ‘n aantal Old Boys wat ons ontval het. Ons betuig ons meegevoel aan die familie en vriende van Allan Conradie (1962), Ludwich Jacobs (1991), Dawie Joubert (1958) en Conraad Wiehahn (1963).
We are also grateful that Derek Swart (ex-teacher) accepted our invitation to attend the AGM this year and that we all got to see him before he passed away. Derek was very popular with the Paul Roosers and we heard many great stories from the Old Boys about him.
Met betrekking tot die jaar wat voorlê, wil ons u aandag op ‘n paar belangrike datums vestig. Die OSU AJV Dinee word op die 19de Mei 2023 in die PRG Sentrum gehou wat ook die amptelike Reünienaweek sal wees. ‘n Verwelkoming van reüniegroepe word op die 19de Mei 2023 om 10:30 gehou.
