Geagte Old Boy
Met die einde van die derde vlaag van Covid in sig is dinge darem so soort van normaal… die nuwe normaal!
Ons het onlangs ons eerste interskole-gholftoernooi teen Paarl Gimnasium gespeel en ons het die louere gedeel met vyf wedstryde elk. Die dag het in ‘n uitmuntende gees afgeloop en beloof om ‘n jaarlikse instelling te word.
This is my last letter as chairman, so please offer me the opportunity to reflect on the past eight years as chairman. There were many Old Boys who were part of the team over the past eight years and I would like to thank them all.
The committee changed a lot due to it being a “love and charity” job and sometimes interfering with a person’s day job. I would like to mention two pillars during this period, who helped me to do my job: Pieter-Jan Bestbier (1986) and Elza van der Walt.
Ons was nooit bang om nuwe projekte aan te pak nie, waarvan alles nie altyd gewerk het nie, maar van die hoogtepunte was:
Alhoewel die OSU nie ‘n primêre fondsinsamelingstruktuur is nie, was dit nog steeds moontlik om die volgende bydraes uit ledegelde aan die skool te skenk.

- London Polla borg ‘n paar behoeftige leerders
- Helderberg Polla het tydens die eerste “lockdown”, verskeie behoeftige gesinne gehelp met kospakkies.

Mass reunion, with the AGM
The reasoning behind this was to get all the reunion groups together on one weekend, to give them a better experience with the school more involved. I just want to reiterate that all matric years were/are welcome, not only the reunion groups. This decision upped attendance figures to over 250 and even 500, whereas an attendance figure of about 80 used to be the norm.
Groei in volopbetaalde lede
- Daar is aggressief gewerk om die volopbetaalde lede te vermeerder en oor die afgelope agt jaar het dit gegroei vanaf 1017 tot 1449.
Meer betrokkenheid van Old Boys by subkomitees
- Rugby (ongeveer R1.1m is ingesamel vir die rugby-ontwikkeling)
- Jeug (daar is baie jonger Old Boys wat nou op die komitee is om vir ons verteenwoordiging op die US-kampus te verseker)
- Lenteloop (geïnisieer deur die 1971-klas)
Helene van Wyk Old Boys Benevolent Fund
This fund was created to assist Old Boys with the following:
- Social and other problems
- Assisting the pupils in finding jobs and job shadowing
- Assisting needy learners
The existing money in the fund was donated by Giuseppe Ciucci (1981). Other attempts to raise more funds for distribution were hindered by the Covid-19 regulations and lockdowns.
We recently sponsored meals for four learners for the remainder of the year, which is their only meal for the day.
Thanks again to everybody who was willing to work towards the success of the Maroon Machine.
Baie dankie aan al die nuwe vriende wat ek ontmoet het gedurende hierdie tydperk en ek sien daarna uit om julle binnekort by een of ander OSU-geselligheid te sien.
