Treffend is, byvoorbeeld, die simboliese ooreenkoms tussen ‘n instelling soos PRG en van die bejaarde akkerbome wat soos bakens langs Stellenbosch se strate staan: daar is volop geskiedenis; maar elke nuwe seisoen is daar ook weer nuwe groei. Instellings van waarde en bome moet gekoester word. As boomstamme eers uitgehol raak en die botsels bly weg, is die einde naby.
In this issue a lot of emphasis is placed on the planting of trees. As an old proverb says: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the second best time is now.”
The obligation of tending and nurturing a tree if growth and abundance are hoped for, constitutes a parallel to the regular renewal of Old Boys memberships; or, if you have never signed up, now is a good time!
An AGM generally marks a time of renewal in various forms. Again coinciding with the now customary mass reunion, which is going from strength to strength, the occasion will this year have a sad undertone due to the stepping down of the current chairperson, Gustav Potgieter, after having wholeheartedly served in this position for eight years. His jovial and inspiring presence will be sorely missed.
Natuurliefhebbers sal met belangstelling die bydrae lees oor die Bottelary-bewarea wat so pas die tiende jaar van bergfietsroetes daarin gevier het met ‘n naweek van bedrywighede. Nie net bied hierdie inisiatief werksgeleenthede aan jongmense nie, maar die inkomste uit permitte word ook vir gemeenskapsontwikkeling en natuurbewaring aangewend.
