Paul Roos Hockey 2017

2017 will be fondly remembered because we ended our season in front of a packed house at the Maties astro. The style of play displayed by all our teams at the season-ending fixture versus Grey College was a joy to behold.

Altesame 38 PRG-spelers is vanjaar vir Boland-spanne gekies. Volkleure is aan William Eveleigh, Adriaan Basson, George Huysamer, Antonie Small-Smith, Jacques Pienaar, Ivann v d Merwe, Ryno Bougas en Dillon Ribeiro toegeken.

Special mention must be made of William Eveleigh, who was selected for the SA U18A team and named as the top goalkeeper at the U18 IPT. Jacques Pienaar was selected for the SA U18B team after the U18 IPT, whilst Luke Langenberg, Hans Neethling, Dean Bundy and Niel Raath were all selected for the SA U16 HP Squad. These are indeed remarkable achievements.

The PRG U12 Cup saw an increase to 14 schools participating in the two-day tournament. This tournament has now become a permanent fixture on the sporting calendar of many Primary schools. This year’s edition saw Bridgehouse, Klein Boishaai, Gene Louw and Hendrik Louw participate for the first time. Ikhwezisizwe from Khayelitsha defended their title to be the overall winners of this year’s event.

o.19A: Founders in Potchefstroom
o.19B: Fairmont
o.16A: Rondebosch-toernooi
o.16B: York-toernooi, George
o.14A & 0.14B: DF Malan-toernooi vir o.14A spanne
o.14A: Somerset College o.14A-toernooi.

In 2017 our young coaches have added immense value to hockey at our school. They have also contributed towards ensuring that they are more involved in player development. Every year that passes I see an increased enthusiasm of these young coaches to be part of the Maroon Hockey Machine.

Our managers must never be taken for granted as they are the glue between the school and the young coaches. They have worked tirelessly in keeping our players informed and inline and this year was no exception. Your contributions are invaluable and highly appreciated.

Lastly, I wish to thank the team at PWC – Frans Weilbach & Andrea Benkenstein – for the incredible support over the past few years and we are all very appreciative of the relationship we have.
