Ses jaar gelede het rektor André van Staden in sy eerste toespraak by die Oud-Skoliere Massa-reüniedinee gesê sy prioriteit is om Paul Roos Gimnasium se momentum van uitnemendheid te versterk. Dit is steeds sy prioriteit, het hy vanjaar gesê en toe met behulp van grafika gewys hoe daar in 2022 op alle terreine uitmuntend presteer is.

In 2022 Paul Roos Gymnasium continued to build on its culture of excellence.

With the help of graphs and statistics, Rector André van Staden highlighted in his presentation astonishing achievements in all areas, from the sports field, to the stage and eventually in the matric exam hall.

PRG maintained its stature as an academic institution and is regarded as a national asset, with a 100 percent pass rate and 94 percent matric exemption rate. The school was first nationally in Engineering Graphics and Design with the most distinctions, fourth nationally in Mathematics and seventh in Physical Sciences. Its total number of 511 distinctions placed it 15th nationally and 7th of Afrikaans schools.

On the cultural stage PRG received a cum laude in the national ATKV Applous-koorkompetisie and was elected as the best boys choir in South Africa. In general, the school experienced a cultural explosion with major success and more opportunities for learners, such as with the National Filmit competition, the Masithethe IsiXhosa –Oratory Competition, Drumline, PRG Big Band, PRG Senior Rock Band, PRG Strings ensemble, and PRG Sax ensemble.

PRG’s u15 and u18 chess teams won the Boland Top Schools Chess Competition and the u15’s ended first in the Western Cape Top Schools’ Chess Competition.

In the swimming pool, PRG won every gala they had entered for last year. It also boasted with the best collective water polo season in the history of Paul Roos and finished 7th on the national rankings.

On the tennis court, PRG won four national tennis tournaments and is the number one tennis school in South Africa.

PRG’S first soccer team ended second on the SA Schools’ Rankings list.

With golf PRG is the SA Schools’ Champion

The u16A hockey team won silver and the u14A team gold in the National Top Schools’Hockey Festival. The u14 A’s had a 100% win rate and conceded only one goal throughout the season.

PRG produced 22 provincial rugby players and 4 SA Schools players.

Luke van der Merwe is the new African u18 High Jump Champion.

And the coaches did not stay behind: PRG’s Head of Hockey, Ashlin Freddy, is the analyst and assistant coach of the South African Men’s hockey team. The water polo coach, Vaughn Marlow, has again been appointed the head coach for the SA Men’s water polo team.
