Geesdrif het vanjaar hoog onder die bergfietsryers geloop. Elke lid van die span was gemotiveerd om sake reg te stel wat in 2016 verkeerd geloop het. Ons het al van vroeg bymekaar gekom en begin werk aan ʼn resep vir sukses wat tot nou toe goeie resultate gelewer het.
We started early in the year with a very successful camp in Wellington to get to know each other. There were about 30 boys that attended the camp that stretched over a weekend. We rode different trails and tested the ability of the boys.
The Spur Mountain Bike League kicked off. We had about 40 boys representing the school and had great results. In U14 we are doing well with a lot of boys starting to find their feet. The U15 category is the age group we are currently dominating and at U16 level we do not have that much depth, but two or three boys are doing really well. In U19 we have three boys in the top positions every race.
The school is hoping to become the top boys school in the Western Cape and then we will qualify for the Spur League final that is held in Gauteng from October 6 to 8 this year.
Ons kon Grey Kollege oortuigend klop, iets waarvoor ons baie hard gewerk het en die vrugte van sukses kon smaak.
Op 23 September het ons ʼn geslaagde interskole bergfietsrywedren aangebied en baie van ons seuns het goed presteer.
Bergfietsry groei sterk. Ons grootste uitdaging is om almal tevrede te hou en al die seuns te laat verbeter.
Hoogtepunte van 2017
- Rossouw Bekker kom eerste in die Afrika kampioenskapsbyeenkoms.
- Jamie Penfold wen die SA Marathon Championship in die o.16-kategorie en Joshua Laughton kom tweede.
- Rossouw Bekker kom ook tweede in die o.19-afdeling.
- Paul Roos wen interskole teen Grey
- Paul Roos is die algehele wenner van die Spur-liga in die WP.
Ek sien baie uit na 2018 en glo ons sal van krag tot krag gaan.
