While South Africa is still basking in the glory of our Rugby World Cup triumph, Paul Roos Gymnasium can take pride in its world record breaking contribution (Chairman’s Report) in achieving this and in the success of the tournament in Japan. The call-up of Damian Willemse to replace an injured Bok who was sent home, grew the number of Old Boys in the Springbok team to five and to six the number playing in the tournament.
Ook die wyse waarop die skool se verteenwoordigers hulle van die veld af gehandhaaf het, het groot indruk gemaak. Schalk Brits, wat tydens die toernooi die naasoudste speler geword het om Springbok-kaptein te word, was ʼn groot gunsteling onder die skares en ʼn ware inspirasie vir sy medespelers.
So, one more round of cheers to fullback Willie le Roux, hooker Schalk, scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies, prop Steven Kitshoff and the versatile back Damian. You have brought us the cup as we have asked last time and you have added a feat probably never to be repeated to our school’s rugby history.
