On Friday 27 May 2016 we gathered in front of the school all excited to see old friends, some for the first time in 30 years.

At that stage the Arts Department, founded in 1874 and forerunner of the Stellenbosch University, was part of the school. Some of the old boys were busy with their theological training at the Dutch Reformed Church’s Seminary in the town. This information led to the decision to let the first rugby team of Paul Roos Gymnasium play in striped jerseys in home games during the 150 Festival Year. She takes the story further:

Mind-boggling experience for our Rhodes scholar at Oxford

Heerden Herman (Paul Roos Gymnasium, Stellenbosch & Exeter 2014)

Distilling a year at Oxford University into a couple of hundred words ranks just below attempting the impossible, but I will nevertheless give it a try. I arrived in the city of dreaming spires on 21 September 2014, very excited about the new path on my life-journey, but at the same time completely unaware of what lay ahead. During the 2014/2015 academic year, I read for an MSc African Studies while being a student at Exeter College.
