With an illustrious 158 year rugby heritage, each season holds a profound significance for the Paul Roos Gimnasium first XV.

Named in honour of the captain of the first South African touring side in 1906, Paul Roos. This was also the first side to be called the Springboks.

Only a photo to confirm that all went well at the cricket festival

The PRG Old Boys Cricket Festival took place at the PRG Oval on 8 and 9 March 2024. The only feedback the Old Boys News Blog received of these two days of thrilling cricket, exciting activities, and sumptuous food stalls, was this photo. But it is clear that the event was thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to the event sponsor, Jansen Pure Beef, and the team sponsors: PKF, Fairtree, Riverside Orchards, SAC, CH Building Supplies, Capepots (Fresh Produce Prepacking and Supplies) and Somerset Sand & Stone.

Societas kry gravitas: Paul Roosers en leerders van Kayamandi vat hande met die loods van die “The River that binds us”-projek

There is much more to address than only the quality of the water of the Eerste River. That was the lesson that members of PRG’s Societas club and learners of Kayamandi secondary schools when they went on an outing on Saturday 21 September 2023. “The River That Binds Us Project” focused on the impact that diverse communities with different historical, cultural, and socio-economic circumstances had on the Eerste River. Segregation between these distinct communities had compromised and is still compromising the Eerste River’s ecological well-being, and ultimately also negatively impacts human and animal health along the river. But it seems that there is hope for the future, and the project will continue thanks to PRG’s new partnership with Investec, as well as with envisaged involvement of interested and affected parties in the community, corporate companies, and environmentally orientated non-governmental organisations.

Raak betrokke by die Digitale Voetspore-projek

Waarom by hierdie projek betrokke raak?

Aanstaande jaar gaan ‘n lekker jaar vir rugbykyk by jou alma mater wees.

Old Boys sorg vir spesiale oomblikke by Rugby-Wêreldbekertoernooi

Sportsmanship continues to triumph

The previous PRG rector Jannie van der Westhuizen recently discussed two PRG rugby incidents in Die Burger to demonstrate that even though sport has irrevocably become a huge industry, it is the stories that will be remembered years later and not the results. Stories deeply define the true nature of sport. It enriches the space in which players and athletes participate and which fans and spectators want to see, enjoy and remember.

Thank you to Die Burger for kindly making Jannie’s article available in PDF format to the Old Boys News Blog for all to read.
