Touching the door header

There seems to be a mystery about why young men like touching the door header when they leave a building, but somehow this just seems to be the right thing to do when you greet your school for the last time as a learner with the Annual Report in your hand. The ability to do that can be regarded according to one explanation as an athletic victory or discovering a superpower, but probably it just shows that you have grown physically and emotionally since entering the school five years before.

SU Chancellor’s Medal was this year awarded for the fourteenth time to an Old Boy, Jean Durand (2019), a Mathematical Statistics graduate with focal area Data Science, to be specific. Pieter du Toit (1997) came to Stellenbosch to launch his new book, The ANC Billionaires: Big Capital’s Gambit and the Rise of the Few, at the Markötter Sports Stadion, Olla Olivier received the Veritas Society’s Living Legend Award for his contribution to the wine industry, Ryk van Niekerk (1992) excelled in this year’s Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year competition, and Niel Joubert (1999) is now on the book shelves with the long awaited biography Whitey: The Rise and Rule of the Shoprite King.

The Rugby Committee’s Golf Day was a great success and the PRG Classic Golf Day’s date early next year has been set. Also have a look at who attended the Senior’s Lunch recently and the Swakopmund Polla. The Last Post was sadly played for a number of our friends.
